Haircuts Hammersmith Style
This being the "day of rest" in our vacation schedule and needing to prepare for the arrival of visitors, we scheduled no outings today. We used the day to clean the house, wash the bed linens, catch up on homework and do other domestic activities. At the top of our list was getting haircuts for the girls. We weren't at all sure how to do this. Our friend Kristin had mentioned "Anna who runs the Greek restaurant on the side," but we didn't want to take the bus to Fulham. So we took the girls to Supercuts at the tube station. Actually, they did a pretty good job. Scott took the girls while Laura kept laundering which was a first since Laura takes the girls at home. Strangely, the stylists said Dad couldn't come into the cutting area with the girls, and each one was assigned to a separate stylist. This was quite different for girls who are used to all going to the salon at once with Mom and all gathering around as the stylist cuts their hair and makes conversation. But we were a long way from Prineville. Olivia's stylist was a Russian woman, Meredith's was a Frenchman, and Cecily's was an Indian woman, while the lady who checked us in was Asian. It was a new experience for the girls for sure, and Dad learned a few things, too: 1) Before leaving for the salon, check to see if each girl has actually combed her hair at some point in the day; it is not a given; 2) check wardrobes; while red socks, black pants and purple shirt may be fetching in a three-year-old's eyes, it is not a combination in which you want strangers to think you take out your children; and lastly, 3) everybody goes potty BEFORE we leave the house!
