Will They Let Me Sleep There?

Aunt Linda and Uncle Bill wanted to see the British Museum. Since Laura was the only one who wanted to go back (for her fourth visit on this trip; sixth time ever), she and Meredith took them while the others headed to Heathrow with Grandma Dorothy. Even though this was Linda and Bill's first trip to there, they were ready to go home long before Laura! While Linda and Bill took the guided "Highlights" tour, Laura dragged Meredith through the Egyptian and ancient Greek galleries--again. On the way, Laura discovered that there are "sleepover" nights at the Museum for kids--and their chaperones! Unfortunately for her, none of her girls are game and Scott refuses to force them to do something he wouldn't do! Linda and Bill enjoyed the "Highlights" tour and, as usual, had some stories about exhibits that we hadn't heard before. (The reason the British were so hot to acquire and decipher hieroglyphics on the Rosetta Stone? They had seen so much gold in all the tombs they unearthed that they were sure the Egyptians had a recipe somewhere to manufacture gold!) Unfortunately, according to Laura, the guide missed some important exhibits. So, Aunt Linda and Uncle Bill were dragged a second time by Laura-turned-tourguide through the Egyptian galleries, the Parthenon display and the Assyrian gallery so they could be "properly" educated and entertained. (Judging from Meredith's pouty lower lip, she didn't think any more of the second tour than she had the first.) Finally, Laura was satisfied that everyone had seen enough. She had barely asked if everyone was ready to leave, and the entire party was out the door! She wants everyone to know, however, that there's no such thing as TOO many trips to the British Museum, and she's up for another visit if any other family or friends choose to visit before we leave!

By this time, Laura should be able to get a job as a tour guide. Then she can go every day and get paid for it. Grandma Dorothy
