Quotes of the Day
Meredith and Cecily might be deemed too young to get any benefit out of this trip, but occasionally something pops out to let you know they are thinking about things. At the National Portrait Gallery two weeks ago, we saw and discussed portraits of Princess Margaret, the current queen's late sister. Sunday, we saw a BBC special about the tragic Mary Queen of Scots who was executed by her cousin, Elizabeth I. Today, after thinking about these things for a while, Meredith asked in all earnestness, "Dad, why didn't Queen Elizabeth chop off her sister's head?" Meanwhile, Cecily's comment today suggests she and Meredith might have been talking about this very subject for when Cecily saw a uniform draped on the torso of a mannequin at the V&A Museum today, she somberly explained to the audience gathered around the display, "That man got his head chopped off."
