Snowfall taken tonight from our upstairs study window. Laura in Chinatown as the snow begins to fall. Our skylight, covered with the first snow of the evening. Let the panic begin!
London media are freaked out by the weather report tonight. A front has moved in from Russia, bringing below zero temperatures and a predicted 10 centimeters of snow (That's about 3 inches for those not fluent in metric.) The cold is expected to last three days. The London Times reports, "Britain is braced for the most widespread snow storms in 18 years after the Met Office classed tomorrow’s Arctic blast as an extreme weather event," and notes, "This winter is already recorded as the coldest in 13 years, with temperatures plunging to lows of minus 13C during a three-week freeze during January." Britain's version of Triple A warned motorists to keep warm clothes in the car and told people they might face hypothermia if they get out of the car without them. The studded tires, snow shovels, windshield scrapers and other cold-weather gear which is a standard part of life for us is simply a mystery. We had planned a trip outside London tomorrow. I suspect that transportation gridlock will cause us to rearrange our plans.

I don't suppose you want to hear that it's been beautiful and sunny and in the 50's (F) here... Patti
