Cookin' and Cleanin'

It's a slow day because the pace of the last week is finally taking a toll on the girls who need some "down" time. This was reinforced when the girls were asked if they wanted a return to the British Museum, and they screamed NOOOOO in unison. So we decided to stay home and do domestic chores. This is actually a big deal for our girls. At home, with both parents working, the housekeeper cleans, and the cooking tends to be a box, can or frozen entree. One of the goals of this trip is to demonstrate alternatives. Meredith thought cleaning the bathroom while Olivia did homework was great fun. (Yes, it was her idea to wear the black dress and tights. She asked for pearls as well, but Mom thought that was too much.) All the girls enjoyed making a traditional America meal of fried chicken, potato salad, green salad, green beans, deviled eggs and apple brown betty for our British friends. If they get nothing else out of this trip, an awareness of the privilege of having our bathroom cleaned for you and your food cooked by someone else is a good beginning on life.
