The Science of Things

Today we visited the Science Museum. We learned about things like the transition from wood to coal to fossil fuels as the world's principle fuel source. We watched an IMAX film in 3-D about the Deep Sea where we learned that 90 percent of the world's big fish have been removed from the oceans in the last 50 years. During the film, we especiallly enjoyed watching Cecily continuously reaching out to grab at thin air when the 3-D effect caused her to misjudge that creatures were swimming right in front of her. The girls were impressed by the exhibit on space travel, especially the lunar landers at the museum and the opportunity to try to thread a bolt into a nut while wearing space gloves. All the girls liked the exhibit on aircraft and particularly were fascinated by the concept of blimps. They were amazed by a typewriter they saw in one exhibit. It was a shock to learn that computers are a relatively recent invention and haven't always been around. By no means did we see it all, but what we saw of the exhibits was good food for little brains.
