What We Eat; What We'll Miss

The British aren't known for their cuisine, but we've mostly been able to find things that we like. We do, however, miss a few KEY American delicacies which we think would be instant sales successes. To compensate, here's an additional list of 10 things worth exporting the other way:

1. Tortillas (Olivia)
2. Buttermilk for biscuits (Laura)
3. California-style olives (Scott and Olivia)
4. Hot dog weiners and buns (Olivia, Meredith and Cecily)
5. Ranch salad dressing (All; salad cream is NOT an adequate replacement)
6. Campbell's chicken noodle soup (Olivia, Meredith, Cecily)
7. American-style peanut butter (Scott, Olivia, Meredith and Cecily)
8. Caffeine-free Diet Coke (Laura)
9. Air-pop popcorn (all)
10. Kraft Macaroni and Cheese (Meredith)

Most of these things are probably available here in specialty stores at a ridiculous price. However, we are trying hard to live "native." This has had a postive outcome in finding several things we DO very much like:

1. British Bacon (Scott and Olivia)
2. Hot chocolate (Olivia, Meredith, Cecily)
3. Sausages (Laura)
4. Wheels of cheese (Scott)
5. Pineapple juice (Meredith)
7. Fruit conserves (Laura)
8. Italian-style thin-crust pizza (Laura, Olivia, Meredith, Cecily)
9. Maris-Piper potatoes (Scott and Laura)
10. Diet Indian tonic water (Laura)

To Laura on laundry. Is there any way to check the dryer vent? When it is full of lint american dryers do the same thing, they heat but do not dry. Except that they then catch on fire, the lint that is. cmc

We've found some items since we initially made this post. There are flour tortillas. Weiners exist but are undersized; we have yet to find hot dog buns. Buttermilk come in small pint-sized containers and tastes nearly the same as our buttermilk. The peanut butter pretty much is up to standards. We've tried two types of macaroni and cheese, one canned and one reconstituted. We won't be trying them again!
