When I asked Olivia what she intended to write about after visiting the British Museum today, she responded, "I don't know. My brain is just a 'mix mash'." True enough. With over 750,000 artifacts, the British Museum has been developing its collection since 1753. Its treasures include items such as the Rosetta Stone, the Parthenon freizes, statuary from the Mausoleum of Helicarnassos (an ancient wonder of the world) and more than 500 mummies--more than any museum outside of Egypt. It is a veritable treasure house and our one day hardly did it justice. The museum is also astounding for its sheer size. The columns on the fronts of the classical facades soar above you and you feel puny by comparison. As Olivia commented when we entered one of the libraries, "Wow. This place is so huge it makes me feel unimportant!"
